“In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks.” – John Muir

A nature walk was organised on 8th July 2025 by the Young Explorers Nature Club of Parle Tilak Vidyalaya (English Medium School) (Secondary Section) to Sathaye College, Vile Parle East. The objective of this educational excursion was to enhance students’ understanding of local flora and to create awareness about biodiversity and the importance of plant conservation.

The walk was conducted under the expert guidance of the faculty members from the Botany Department of Sathaye College. Students were guided by Mrs. Suresh Kale and Mrs. Chaitali Poojari, who facilitated interactive sessions focusing on plant classification. A wide range of botanical concepts such as venation types, leaf arrangement, root systems, botanical nomenclature, and traditional medicinal uses of plants were explained.

Various trees, shrubs, and herbs found on the college campus were identified by the students during the walk. Notable among the trees observed were the Taman tree (the state tree of Maharashtra), Guava, Kokan tree, Peepal, Banyan, Cycas, and multiple palm varieties. Shrubs like Periwinkle and the 4 o’clock plant were also studied. The plant diversity present on the premises was explored with great interest and enthusiasm.

Through this experience, a deeper appreciation for nature and its conservation was fostered. The session served as an enriching, hands-on learning opportunity that left a lasting impression on the participants.

Heartfelt gratitude was extended to the faculty members of Sathaye College, especially Mrs. Suresh Kale and Mrs. Chaitali Poojari, for their time, knowledge, and dedication. The walk was transformed into a journey of discovery through their inspiring efforts. Sincere thanks were also conveyed to the Principal and management of Sathaye College for facilitating this valuable learning experience.

We thank our Headmistress, Madam Smita Biwalkar, and our teachers, Ms Kavita Kapoor and Mr Kalpesh Satra, for ensuring the smooth conduct of this activity.
