Report on the 105th Tilak Punyatithi Celebration
The 105th death anniversary of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak was observed with heartfelt reverence at Parle Tilak Vidyalaya English Medium School (Secondary Section) on August 1, 2025. Remembered as a fearless freedom fighter, a scholar and a voice for the people, Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak’s legacy was honoured through a meaningful programme that brought students and teachers together in a spirit of pride, patriotism and gratitude.
The morning began with a floral tribute offered by our Headmistress Mrs. Smita Biwalkar to the photo frame of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak. This simple gesture marked the beginning of a thoughtful and well-organised event. The programme was compered by our teacher Mrs. Kalpana Ved whose reflections on Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak’s life helped students understand Lokmanya Tilak’s contributions to our motherland.
A speech was delivered by our teacher Mrs. Rathi Pillai who highlighted Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak’s strong sense of purpose and deep love for the nation. Her words reminded everyone that the values he upheld such as truth, justice and national pride continue to matter in today’s world.
Lucas Kinny from Class 6A narrated an important episode from Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak’s life. He spoke about the ‘No Tax’ campaign led by Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak to support farmers during a severe famine in Maharashtra. His clear and confident narration helped the audience connect with the real challenges faced during that time.
A Powada dedicated to Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak was presented by the school choir under the guidance of our music teacher Mrs. Vrushali Virkar. The performance brought alive the courage and determination that Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak represented.
To honour his memory and inspire students to engage with his ideals, a creative writing competition was organised. The winners were announced by our Supervisor Mrs. Vasundhara Pandey and the prizes were distributed by our Headmistress.
The programme concluded with a message encouraging students to walk in the footsteps of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak by living with honesty, courage and commitment to the nation.
