Upcycling Plastic Workshop
“The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.” – Robert Swan
On 26 November, an informative workshop on Upcycling Plastic was conducted for the Nature Club members of Parle Tilak Vidyalaya English Medium School Secondary Section. Plastic has become an integral part of modern life yet disposing it responsibly has emerged as one of the greatest environmental challenges of our time.
To address this concern, the Young Explorer Nature Club organised an innovative workshop on upcycling plastic waste. Mrs Rashmi Joshi, an environmentalist, conducted an interactive session with the Std 8 Nature Club students and introduced them to practical ways of reusing plastic creatively.
Through an engaging audio-visual presentation, students were sensitised to the alarming problem of excessive plastic accumulation and its harmful impact on nature. They learnt that dry plastic bags, bottles and containers can be transformed into useful items such as household furniture, shoe racks, plant potters, bird feeders and eco-bricks.
After the workshop, a Best Out of Plastic Waste competition was announced where each student is expected to prepare a meaningful and useful article by upcycling plastic.
The session inspired students to think responsibly and act consciously. “We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors we borrow it from our children.” This workshop nurtured awareness about mindful plastic use and encouraged our young learners to dispose waste safely while exploring sustainable alternatives.
