Night Sky Gazing Session – A Journey into the Wonders of the Universe
The Science Club of Parle Tilak Vidyalaya English Medium School (Secondary Section) organised an enriching Night Sky Gazing Session on 14th March 2026, in collaboration with the Brahmand Darshan Team. The programme was conducted at Sapale, Palghar, offering students a unique opportunity to observe the celestial wonders of the night sky. The students were accompanied by our Headmistress Mrs Smita Biwalkar and Science teacher Mr Amit Palav.
The session began with registration and an introductory briefing, during which students were familiarised with the location, safety guidelines and the astronomical equipment used for observation. As the sun set, participants observed the evening sky and the crescent moon, along with demonstrations of satellite tracking.
A detailed astronomy video presentation helped students understand various astronomical concepts and the fascinating structure of the universe. This was followed by a Night Sky Orientation session, where students learnt how to identify important celestial objects such as the North Star, Cassiopeia, the Andromeda Galaxy, star clusters, the Orion Nebula and several double stars.
Using powerful 10-inch telescopes, students had the rare opportunity to observe several celestial bodies closely. The session continued with general sky observations, during which new constellations and astronomical objects were introduced.
After dinner, students enjoyed a musical session under the stars, creating a memorable blend of learning and relaxation. A short rest period followed before the early morning observations.
At dawn, the students participated in early morning constellation viewing, where they explored the Milky Way Galaxy, various planets and satellite movements. Witnessing the sunrise in the calm natural surroundings added a beautiful conclusion to the astronomical experience.
The programme ended with a group photograph, breakfast and a feedback session, where students shared their excitement and learning experiences.
The Night Sky Gazing Session proved to be a highly educational and inspiring experience, allowing students to connect classroom knowledge with real-life astronomical observation and develop a deeper appreciation for the wonders of the universe.
